Job Overview
XYZ Designers is looking for a General Accountant with practical experience in project cost control and job costing. The position supports construction, engineering, or architectural consultancy work by tracking project costs, reviewing profitability, monitoring budgets, and preparing financial reports. The successful candidate will use QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel to turn cost data into useful reporting for project teams and management.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare project-by-project job costing and analyse profitability against project budgets and expectations.
- Compare actual expenditure with forecasts and investigate significant cost differences or potential overruns.
- Track project man-hours, staff costs, subcontractor expenses, and other direct project costs.
- Monitor project revenue, billing milestones, work in progress, and unbilled revenue.
- Maintain reliable project accounting records in QuickBooks Online and supporting schedules.
- Prepare cost reports, budget-versus-actual analysis, and management dashboards using Microsoft Excel.
- Handle reconciliations, month-end close activities, general accounting, and UAE VAT-related schedules.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Three to five years of relevant accounting experience.
- Experience in engineering, architectural, supervision, or project-management consultancy is strongly preferred.
- Hands-on proficiency with QuickBooks Online and strong Excel skills.
- Practical job-costing and cost-analysis experience with the ability to explain variances clearly.
- CA, CPA, ACCA, CMA, or an equivalent professional qualification is an advantage.
Skills
Strong analytical ability, commercial awareness, numerical accuracy, and a careful approach to reconciliations are important. Candidates should be able to organise project-level data, identify unusual movements, and produce reports that are clear enough for non-accounting colleagues to use.
Working Approach
This role works across accounting and project delivery, so timely communication and consistency in coding and cost allocation are essential. The employee should manage deadlines independently, maintain audit-ready records, and raise unusual costs or billing issues before they affect reporting.
Employment Details
Employment type: Full-time. Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Experience: 3–5 years. Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Salary: AED 6,000–7,000 per month.
